Fran Travis was named the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Women's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week (April 22) announced by the conference office earlier today.

Notes: 

• this is the fifth installment of the weekly awards for the 2026 outdoor track and field season
• Travis is the second Defenders athlete to earn the weekly honor for this outdoor season
  • Makenna Walhof - April 1
• Travis hit a pair of NAIA qualifying marks and won two events at the Red Raider Open
• Travis won the hammer and hit the 'A' standard once again where she improved her national standing to No.6 in the NAIA
  • the sophomore's mark of 55.26m ranks second best all-time in program history
• Travis also won the discus and hit the 'B' standard with a mark of 46.06m in the cold and windy conditions
  • she currently ranks third in the NAIA and has the top mark in the GPAC
• placed fourth and just missed hitting the 'B' standard in the shot put
• has recorded nine straight, top 10 finishes in the the last three meets
