Altena, Walhof Set School Records at Mount Marty

The Dordt University women's track and field team established three program records at the Mount Marty Twilight, a one-day meet held at Williams Field in Yankton, S.D. 

Notes

  • Makenna Walhof continued her dominant season with a first place finish and record-setting throw in the hammer
    • Walhof eclipsed the record on her third attempt with a mark of 56.46m (185-03) which ranks No.2 in the NAIA and trails No.1 Lauren Curtis by .15m
    • Walhof's mark beats the previous record (55.35m) that she set in the first meet of the outdoor season (Wildcat Classic)
  • Kailee Altena established two program records, both coming in the sprints
    • Altena first broke the record in the 100m and placed third overall with a time of 11.90, breaking the previous record held by Emma Bakker (12.01) in 2022
    • Altena followed with another record-breaking race in the 200m, placing second with a time of 24.33
      • the previous record was held by Miranda Velgersdyk (24.70) in 2017
  • Abby Harding picked up the win in the 800m, posting a season-best time of 2:27.42, nearly 1.5 seconds ahead of second place Madison Brouwer (USD)
  • Dordt's final win came in the 4x400 relay where the Defenders crossed the finish line in 4:16.7, nearly 20 seconds ahead of Northwestern
  • both Anna Heynen and Jenna Balt ran personal bests, finished among the top 10 and turned in all-time top 10 time in the 100m
    • Heynen placed fifth overall with a time of 12.05, third fastest all-time at Dordt
    • Balt placed ninth overall (12.38) with the No.8 time all-time at Dordt
  • Fran Travis turned in another top five finish in the hammer, placing fourth overall
  • Lynne Tormoehlen recorded a personal-best and a program top 10 mark in the hammer
  • Kaitlyn Wercinski and Karly Champness ran well and finished among the top five in the 400m hurdles
    • Wercinski, a national qualifier in the event, placed second (1:05), trailing the overall winner (Hadley Cheatum of USD) by 1.5 seconds
    • Champness, competing for the second time in the event, ran a personal-best  time of 1:07 and placed fourth overall; her time ranks eighth fastest at Dordt
  • Avery Van Weerdhuizen ran the program's eighth fastest time in the 100m hurdles
  • the Defenders distance crew ran well in both the 1500m and 5000m
