The Dordt Defender women's golf team is sixth after the opening round of the Mount Marty Invite played Monday, August 24, at Hillcrest Golf and Country Club in Yankton, South Dakota.

Dordt recorded a 350 and is five strokes behind Briar Cliff for fifth place. Morningside leads the 14-team field with a 330, five strokes ahead of Concordia. A total of 74 golfers recorded a score in the opening round.
Olivia Meyering leads the Defenders after shooting a 42-41=83 and is tied for ninth. Meyering had a birdie on the par-four 18th hole and totaled six pars.

Chloe Attema and Ashlee Sweeter each carded an 88 and are tied for 23rd. Both  birdied the par-four third hole, and Sweeter closed with a 42 on the back nine after shooting 46 on the opening nine.

Hope Faber completed Dordt's team score with a 91 and is tied for 35th. Faber recorded a team-best 40 on the front nine and birdied the par-four fourth hole. Laney Franken shot a 98, which was not included in the team total.

Dordt's four counting scores totaled 172 on the front nine and 178 on the back. The Defenders recorded four birdies during the round.

Allison Meyerink of Dakota Wesleyan holds the individual lead after shooting a 75. Morningside teammates Alysen Sander and Aidan Sander are tied for second with 79s.

Dordt's second team is 12th with a 399. Avery Bunkers led that group with a 91 and is tied for 35th.

The final round will be played Tuesday, August 25, at Fox Run Golf Course.
