Box Score Pablo Martin recorded his first career hat trick in leading the Dordt University men's soccer team to a 7-0 shutout win against Avila (Mo.) on Friday night at the Defenders Soccer Complex.

The Defenders picked up their second consecutive shutout and improved to 3-1-1 this season; Avila drops to 0-3.

Martin opened the game's scoring when he received a cross that was deflected by an Eagles defender and drove a shot in the back of the net during the fourth minute. Dordt made it 2-0 when Julian Janssen delivered a beautiful cross that Joao Locatelli headed into the net at the 10-minute mark. 

Three minutes later, Henry Haufler put his team in front 3-0 when he tucked away a rebounded shot by Boston Gerdes. Martin netted his second goal moments later (17th minute) to make it 4-0 at intermission.

Martin completed his hat trick moments into the second half when he converted a penalty kick during the 51st minute. The Defenders capitalized off another set piece during the 59th minute when HyunWoo Kim put away an incredible shot into the upper left corner of the goal from 20-yards out. Gerdes netted the final goal at the 70th minute off another set piece.

• Dordt held a commanding 23-6 advantage in total shots; 16-6 with shots on-goal
• 11 different Defenders recorded at least on shot on-goal, led by Martin with three
• five players netted at least one goal for the Defenders
