Defenders Win Second Straight; Edge Bellevue 2-1

Dordt improves to 6-4-1 this season

The Dordt University women's soccer team defeated Bellevue 2-1 in the final non-conference match of the regular season played this afternoon at the Defender Soccer Complex.

Dordt improves to 6-4-1 as they head to the second half of its conference schedule. They snap the Bruins five-match, unbeaten streak and hand the Bruins their second loss of the season (7-2-1).

"Today was one of the best games I have seen us play this year," said Dordt University Head Coach Alex Durbin. "Our build up and opportunities that came in the first half where phenomenal. The ladies knew what they needed to do to beat a very good Bellevue team and they executed it. We had to play solid for a full 90 minutes and we did that this afternoon."

Scoreless until the 13th minute, Karinna Tel gave the Defenders a 1-0 lead when she one timed a beautiful cross played into the box by Jori Bronner. Dordt out-shot the Bruins 10-5 in a first half that ended with the hosts in front 1-0.
Dordt added to its lead early in the second half on a play similar to how they scored its first goal but this time it was Bronner who touched a pass from Tel into the back of the net during the 49th minute. Bellevue scored its lone goal three minutes later when Sami Reding connected on a pass from Ximena Jauregi.  By The Numbers...
  • Dordt finished the match with an 8-6 advantage in shots on-goal
  • Katherine Kooiman led the Defenders with four shots on frame while Bronner, Tel, Avril Baccam and Ellie Stuart all had one shot on frame
  • Hailey DeWitt made five saves and earned the win (1-0) in her first career start for the Defenders
  • Bellevue was led by Jauregi with three shots on-goal and Jenn Amaro made six saves
  • this was the Defenders second consecutive win over Bellevue but first at home since 2003
