Defenders Earn Road Win To Start Season

The Dordt Defender men's basketball team used a late 15-0 run to pull away and earn a road victory over the Mayville State Comets on Friday night, October 28.

The Defenders got behind early and trailed 16-10 with 13:01 left in the first half before rallying and taking the lead for good at 25-24 on a pair of Jacob Vis free throws. Mayville State dealt with foul trouble the entire half and Dordt took advantage, converting 13-18 free throws and taking a 50-36 halftime lead when Bryce Coppock made two free throws with under two seconds remaining.  Dordt's Jackson Louscher headed the offensive effort in the first half with 17 points to match his career high.

The hosts scored the first seven points of the second half to make a game of it and Dordt was unable to pull away for much of the half.  The Comets got within 56-54 but Jackson Louscher scored a basket to re-establish a four point lead and  ignite a 9-0 lead that was capped with a Jackson Lee three-point basket. The Comets again cut into the lead with a basket at the 9:15 mark and it was still a three-point difference with 7:39 left in the game.  Luke Rankin made a shot in the paint to start an eventual 15-point run at the spanned four minutes and by the time Mayville State stopped the run the Defenders had more than enough breathing room to win 95-76.
