The Dordt University women's soccer team continued its offensive outburst as they defeated Morningside 7-2 in a conference match played today at the Defenders Soccer Complex.
Dordt extends its win streak to four matches and they move into a tie for fourth place in the current GPAC standings with a 4-2-1 record, 8-4-1 overall. Morningside had its five-match unbeaten streak snapped and they fall to 3-3-1 in the conference, 6-5-1 overall.
"Today we played a complete game," said Dordt University Head Coach Alex Durbin. "On the attacking end, we pressured well and found the back of the net relentlessly. The game just seemed to flow for us this afternoon."
Five different Dordt players scored a goal in the first half as the Defenders led 5-1 at intermission.
Shayla Van Beek got things started quickly for the Defenders, scoring her first career goal at the three-minute mark off an assist by
Katherine Kooiman.
Avril Baccam netted the first of her two goals when she received a pass from
Karinna Tel and put it by Morningside keeper Morgan Messersmith on the near post during the 18th minute. Kooiman pushed the Defenders lead to 3-0 when she scored off a set piece from 25-30 yards out with 20-minutes gone by.
A goal by Moringside forward Roselynn Bosman made the score 3-1 with 15 minutes left in the first half. Dordt came back with two more goals during the final 10+ minutes to take a commanding 5-1 lead. Tel found the back of the net on a sweet cross from Kooiman on a corner kick at the 36th minute and
Eliza Evans joined the goal-scoring fun when she put a ball into the back of the net on another assist from Kooiman.
Morningside scored its second and final goal early in the second half on a breakaway by Jill Hellerforth. The Defenders puts their exclamation point on the win with two final goal scored within 10 minutes of each other, the first by Tel of an assist from Bronner at the 65th minute. Baccam concluded the scoring with her second goal at the 75th minute off an assist by Tel.
