The Dordt Defenders ran away with a 145-62 win over Oak Hills Christian on day one of the Dordt University Thanksgiving Classic on Friday, November 25.
Dordt scored the first eight points of the game and led 18-4 with six minutes gone in the game. A
Camden Bialas dunk pushed the difference to 26-8 and a
Jacob Vis layup with 6:40 left in the first half put the Defenders up 41-10. The Defenders outscored the Wolfpack in the first half 67-32.
The scoring didn't slow in the second half as a
Cade Bleeker three-point shot five minutes into the second half made it 92-44 and
Jackson Lee's layup gave Dordt 100 points with 12:30 left in the game.
Oak Hills Christian had difficulty keeping up with just eight players in uniform for the game and the Defenders scored 46 points over the final 12:30, establishing a single game scoring record in the process.
THE NUMBERS
- Dordt was 59-88 from the field and 20-39 from the three-point line while limiting Oak Hills Christian to 27-73 field goal shooting and 8-33 from the three-point arc.
- Dordt made 7-9 free throws and Oak Hills Christian did not attempt a free throw.
- Dordt had a 55-21 rebounding edge and forced 13 turnovers while committing five.
- Cade Bleeker scored 25 points and was 7-12 from the three-point line and had five rebounds.
- Bryce Coppock scored 14 points with seven rebounds and six assists.
- Jackson Louscher scored 14 points with five rebounds and Lucas Lorenzen and Camden Bialas each had 13 points.
- Jacob Vis scored 12 points with five rebounds and Luke Rankin handed out 10 assists.
- All 17 players who were in uniform scored and seven players converted three-point shots.
- The 146 points breaks the previous team record of 126 set in a win in 1989 over Lake Forest.
- 59 made field goals breaks the previous mark of 50 set in three different games and the 20 made three-point shots breaks the 2017 mark of 18 set against Waldorf.
- The win was Brian Van Haaften's 500th career college coaching victory.
- Dordt is 7-2 and will play Governors State on Saturday afternoon at 4:00 pm.
