For the second game in a row the Dordt Defender men's basketball team scored over 100 points and moved to 8-2 this season with a 113-82 win over Governors State (Illinois) on day two of the Dordt Thanksgiving Classic.
Dordt started slowly and trailed 10-3 with 17:01 left in the first half on a basket by Tai Walters-Whitaker.
Cade Bleeker started an 18-0 run with a three-point shot and
Jacob Vis got a bucket after a missed shot by the Jaguars. Bleeker tied the game with a pair of free throws at the 15:51 mark and Dordt took the lead for good on with a
Luke Rankin basket after another Governors State miss. The lead grew to 21-10 with back to back baskets by
Camden Bialas and
Cade Bleeker. An Amarion Osborne basket stopped the 18-0 run but Dordt started a 6-0 run with another Bleeker three and he added a three-point play moments later and Dordt never led by less than 10 the rest of the game.
Governors State trimmed the lead to 14 early in the second half at 55-41 but Dordt scored 10 straight to take the suspense away and outscored the Jaguars 60-48 in the second half for the 31- point win.
THE NUMBERS
- Dordt converted 43-67 field goals and 16-34 three-point shots for 61 and 47 percent respectively.
- The visitors were 33-68 from the field and 9-22 from the arc for 49 and 41 percent success.
- Dordt had a 44-20 rebounding advantage.
- Lucas Lorenzen had 22 points and was 9-11 from the field and 4-5 from the arc.
- Jacob Vis and Cade Bleeker each had 19 points. Vis had 12 rebounds and seven assists and Bleeker made four three-point shots.
- Bryce Coppock and Luke Rankin each had nine points and Rankin had eight assists while Coppock had six rebounds.
- Jackson Louscher and Camden Bialas had eight points each and Bialas had four rebounds and a blocked shots with two steals.
- Dordt is 8-2 this season while Governors State is 2-7.
- Dordt's next action will be Saturday, December 3 at Fremont, Nebraska against Midland.
