(Friday, December 2, 2022; Sioux Center, Iowa) Alana Fergen, a senior at Menno High School (South Dakota), has announced her intention to attend Dordt and join the Defender track and field program.
"Alana is my first commit and I'm excited she's going to be joining us for her collegiate career. She's been competitive in her high school career making it to the state meet her sophomore and junior seasons and is set up to have a great senior year. She projects several important traits that should translate well to her transition to college where she's going to be a nice piece to add to the group we already have in place," said Dordt track and field throws coach Justin Pastoor.
Fergen is a thrower and has personal bests of 107-7 in the discus, 29-6 in the shot and 81-10 in the javelin. She placed 15th in the discus at the 2021 state meet and 9th in the same event in 2022.
"I chose to attend Dord tUniversity mostly for the Christian aspects as well as the opportunities I can have in sports. I love the community and Dordt as a whole," said Fergen.
Alana is the daughter of Christopher and Christina Fergen of Menno, South Dakota. She plans to study nursing at Dordt.
