Defenders Push Win Streak To Seven With Victory At Mount Marty

Bryce Coppock scored a game-high 19 points

Bryce Coppock scored a game-high 19 points to lead the (RV) Dordt University men's basketball team to their seventh consecutive win, downing Mount Marty 82-73 in a GPAC match-up played this afternoon in Yankton, S.D.
The win pushes the Defenders into a first place tie, along with Hastings and Morningside, in the current GPAC standings with a 5-2 record. They improve to 12-2 overall and have not lost since dropping back-to-back games in mid-November.

Coppock netted 15 of his game-high 19 points in the second half and scored in double figures for the 13th time this season. Lucas Lorenzen contributed 18 points, scoring in double figures in his seventh straight game, and Jacob Vis finished a rebound shy of a double-double, scoring 17 points to go with nine boards.

Tied 9-9 after five minutes of play, Dordt outscored the host Lancers 34-10 over the final 15 minutes to take a commanding 43-19 lead at halftime. The Defenders limited Mount Marty to just 27% shooting, 8% (1/13) from beyond the arc, during the opening half.

A three-pointer from Lorenzen broke the 9-9 tie and began a 14-0 Defenders run as the visitors went ahead 23-9 and held Mount Marty scoreless for nearly five minutes. Dordt used a 9-0 run later, finished off with a Lorenzen lay-up and free throw by Vis, to take a 32-13 advantage with five minutes left in the half.

Dordt extended its lead to as much as 29 points early in the second half following three-pointers by Coppock, who knocked down two in the opening minutes, and Lorenzen, whose three-pointer gave the Defenders a 56-27 lead. Mount Marty battled back to within 20-points at the 10-minute mark and had the lead down to single digits by the end as they shot a much better 54% in the second half.
