The Dordt Defender men's basketball team ran its winning streak to eight with a 108-75 win over the Presentation Saints on Monday afternoon, January 2.
Bryce Coppock gave the Defenders the lead for good after getting fouled on a three-point shot and he made all three of his free throws with 16:30 left in the first half for an 8-5 lead. The Defenders' first double-digit lead came at 19-9 when Coppock converted a jump shot in the lane. Presentation rallied to within 32-25 with 7:17 left in the half but the Defenders outscored the visitors 28-17 to lead 60-42 at halftime.
Most of the second half was played at a 24-28 point difference with the Dordt reserves pushing the difference past 30 on free throws by
Ty Van Essen and a three-point basket by
Ben Loverude.
Presentation had a hard time matching up with Dordt's
Jacob Vis who scored 26 points on 11-12 shooting and he was the beneficiary of several assists from
Luke Rankin who ended the day with 12 assists.
THE NUMBERS
- Dordt was 42-70 from the field and 19-21 from the free throw line for 60 percent and 90.5 percent respectively.
- Presentation was 30-64 from the field for a 47 percent clip.
- Dordt had a 32-31 rebounding edge and forced 18 turnovers while committing five.
- Vis had 26 points, five rebounds and four assists and his only miss was a three-point shot.
- Bryce Coppock added 15 points with four rebounds and two assists.
- Lucas Lorenzen had 15 points and was 7-10 from the field.
- Cade Bleeker added 11 pints and Jackson Louscher had 10 points.
- Luke Rankin narrowly missed a double-double with nine points, 12 assists and five rebounds.
- Dordt is now 13-2 overall while Presentation slips to 5-8.
