The Dordt University men's soccer team played Colorado Christian to a 1-1 draw in the season opener for both teams played today at Trailblazer Stadium in Lakewood, Colo.
Blake Hansen tied the match when he broke free behind the Cougars defense and netted the equalizer early in the second half (58th minute). Both teams had their opportunities for a game-winner over the final 30 minutes but were unable to convert.
Dordt totaled six shots on-goal, three by Hansen and one each from
Asher Brown,
Quintin Olson and
John Stephenson.
Brandon Hansen stopped five Colorado Christian shots for a total of five saves.
The host Cougars went ahead 1-0 when Ben Hess blasted a shot past Defender goal keeper,
Brandon Hansen, during the 16th minute. Michel Pinoncely made five saves for Colorado Christian.
Following an off day on Friday, the Defenders return to competition with a Saturday afternoon match against Metro State, beginning at 2:30pm.
