The Dordt University men's soccer team lost to Metro State (Colo.) 2-0 in the final match of its early-season Colorado trip played today at the Assembly Athletic Complex in Denver.
Dordt is now 0-1-1 this season.
Both goals were scored in the opening frame, the first coming with just six minutes gone by. Aidan Bates, the leading scorer for Metro State in 2021, put a ball past Defenders goalie
Mitch Dryden at the 6:42 mark. The second and final goal was scored with a mere 45 seconds left in the opening half when Adam Perez found the back of the net.
Dordt was out-shot 10-4 in the opening half.
The teams played an even second half as both totaled four shots and came up empty on a couple of good scoring chances. Dryden made the highlight play in the second frame by stopping a Roadrunners penalty kick.
Dordt totaled four shots on-goal, one each by
Asher Brown,
Ethan Knott,
John Stephenson and
Quintin Olson. Dryden made four saves.
Ross Miller led Metro State with four saves and Perez accounted for two of his teams six shots on-goal.
Dordt will host Trinity Christian and Ottawa (Kan.) the weekend of Sept. 2-3 for its home opener.
