The Dordt University women's soccer team lost to a ranked Briar Cliff squad, 5-1, in the conference opener for both teams played tonight at the Defenders Soccer Complex.Â
Dordt had its three-match win streak snapped and moves to 0-1 in the GPAC, 3-3 overall. Briar Cliff improves to 1-0 in the conference, 3-1-1 overall, while staying unbeaten over its last four matches.Â

Karinna Tel put Dordt in front early, scoring her team-leading sixth goal of the season, during the eighth minute off a counter attack. Briar Cliff freshman, Mady Soumare, scored 10 minutes later off an assist by Taylor Alkire to tie the match 1-1.Â
Taylor Hill put the Chargers in front for good with a goal during the 22nd minute. A couple of nice saves by Dordt goalkeeper
Jenna Wright kept the score 2-1 by halftime.Â
Two more goals by Soumare, the first scored during the 49th minute, put Briar Cliff in full control. She scored her third and final goal at the 78th minute off an assist from Hill, pushing her season total of goals scored to seven. Hannah Shuttleworth netted the final goal for the Chargers off another assist from Hill, who finished the match with four points (goal, 2 assists).Â
Dordt was outshot 16-3 by the Chargers, including 14-1 for shots on-goal. Wright made nine saves, matching her season high.Â
The Defenders will travel to Omaha, Neb. on Saturday, Sept. 17 for a 1pm match against College of Saint Mary.
