Blake Hansen scored the game-winning goal during the 83rd minute in giving Dordt University a 4-3 victory against Concordia in a back-and-forth conference match-up played under the lights on the Defenders home soccer complex.
The Defenders win is the first against Concordia since 2014 and snapped a seven-match winless streak. Dordt improves to 1-0-1 in the GPAC, 3-2-3 overall. Concordia lost for just the second time this season and ended its five-match win streak as they fall to 1-1 in the conference, 6-2 overall.
"What a roller coaster of match tonight...Concordia is such a quality opponent and this is a great win for our guys," stated Dordt University Head Coach Ryan Gresse. "We capitalized on our opportunities during key moments of this match and that made a difference. It was a collective effort by everyone and I'm really proud of the team tonight."
Tied 3-3 with under 10 minutes left to play, Hansen stepped in front of a Concordia pass and scored the game-winner off a rebounded shot on Bulldogs goalie Federico Simonetti. It was Hansen's second goal of the match and his team-leading fourth of the season.
The teams alternated goals in a back and forth first half that ended with the score tied 2-2. Concordia opened the game's scoring with a goal from Martin Herrera with just four minutes off the game clock. Dordt responded with its first goal as
Kaleb Lee found the back of the net with a beautiful header off a set piece by
Tyson Reitsma. Carlos Orquiz put Concordia back in front 2-1 with an unassisted goal at the 31st minute only to have the Defenders tie the match up three minutes later on a goal from
Javier Moscardo off an assist by
Phil Appelt.

Hansen gave the Defenders their first lead when he scored his first goal just 56 seconds into the second half off another assist from Reitsma. Dordt held the lead until Dominic Abdel-Ahad broke through with the equalizer at the 63rd minute.
By the Numbers:
- the four goals scored by the Defenders is a season-high and also the most given up by Concordia since 2016
- Dordt held a 6-5 advantage in shots on-goal, led by Hansen with four
