The Dordt University men's soccer team pushed its win streak to three with a commanding 6-1 victory against Dakota Wesleyan this evening under the lights at the Defenders Soccer Complex.
The Defenders are now 3-0-1 in the conference, 5-2-3 overall, and run their unbeaten streak to six (4-0-2).
"Overall, it was good to see a lot of different names on the scoresheet," stated Dordt Head Coach Ryan Gresse. "I'm proud of our second half response; we need to put together more complete performances. Consistency will be key in gauging progress moving forward."
How It Happened...
- the Defenders struck first, scoring off a set piece in the opening five minutes, when Fran Murdoch headed a corner kick from Tyson Reitsma
- Dordt added a goal late in the first half when Javier Moscardo finished off a nice combination play with Blake Hansen for a 2-0 lead
- the score remained 2-0 until the 59th minute when Marco Laenen scored on a nifty through pass from Reitsma that just got by the diving arms of DWU keeper Hunter Birozy
- Dordt netted its fourth goal when Hansen, the reigning GPAC Player of the Week, received a pass from Asher Brown and touched a shot into the back of the net during the 60th minute
- nine minutes later, Phil Appelt pushed the the Defenders lead to 5-0 when he began a scoring run from midfield on a pass to Ryan Reyes, who passed it to Evan Beier who then found Appelt for the finisher
- Ethan Knott capped off the scoring for the Defenders with a goal during the 76th minute, assisted by both Reyes and Moscardo
- DWU netted its lone goal at the 77th minute by Raul Aparicio
