Baccam Sets School Record in Defenders 8-1 Win

Dordt improves to 5-4-1 overall

Avril Baccam scored a school-record six goals in leading Dordt to an 8-1 win against Dakota Wesleyan in a conference match played tonight under the lights on the Defenders home turf.

Dordt moves to 2-2-1 in the GPAC and a game over .500 overall, improving to 5-4-1. DWU falls to 0-4 in conference play, 2-5-1 overall.

"The focus of this last week has been to compete for a full 90 minutes without letting off the gas," commented Dordt Head Coach Alex Durbin. "We had a moment in the first half where it looked like we started to let off slightly and the team quickly turned that around. It was great to see us find the back of the net as much as we did."

Baccam scored the Defenders first six goals, four in the first half and two more in the final frame. Jori Bronner nettted her team's final two goals to go with one assist while Karinna Tel recorded three assists.

Scoring Summary...
  • Baccam opened the game's scoring just 90 seconds into the match when she received a pass from Tel in front of the DWU goal and touched it past the Tigers goalkeeper; Tel created the scoring opportunity when she received a pass at midfield and blew by a Defender down the left sideline
  • Following a Dakota Wesleyan goal during the ninth minute, Baccam gave the Defenders a 2-1 lead when she blasted a shot in the upper right quadrant from 18-yard out during the 20th minute
  • Dordt extended its lead to 3-1 when Baccam used her speed to track down a long pass and after a couple of touches to get by the DWU goalie, kicked the ball into the open net during the 33rd minute
  • the Defenders went ahead 4-1 when Bronner ripped a shot that DWU goalie Isabella Gregg stopped but rebounded off and Baccam touched into the net for her fourth goal
  • Baccam scored an unassisted goal during the 57th minute, giving the Defenders a 5-1 lead, and then scored the record-breaking goal during the 62nd minute off an errant pass by DWU
  • Leading 6-1, Bronner scored the final two Defender goals, the first off an assist by Tel and the final on a blast off a set piece 30-yards away

  • Elianna Van Hulzen made two saves to earn her third win of the season (3-1-1)
