Dordt Hockey Scores a Season High in Big Win Over Nothern Illinois

The Dordt Defenders had their way offensively in a 13-2 win over the Northern Illinois Huskies on Friday night.

The Defenders got off to an early start with a goal in the first period with 16:40 remaining. That goal was scored by Alex Espenson and he was assisted by Isaac Baart.

Dordt scored their second of the night just a few minutes later with 14:09 remaining in the first period. Griffin Lennes scored his first of the night, assisted by Alex Espenson.

Four minutes later, the Defenders scored again off a Brady Espenson shot after receiving a pass from Jonah Weems.

With 9:46 left in the first, Noah Wilmes scored off an assist from Ryler Schelle.

Wilmes wasn't done as he would score his second of the night just a few minutes later with 5:06 left in the period after another assist by Ryler Schelle.

Griffin Lennes put his second goal of the night in unassisted with 3:50 left in the period. The Defenders would go into the first intermission with a healthy 6-0 lead.

The Defenders picked up right where they left off with a goal from Alex Espenson with 18:33 remaining in the second period. Assisted by Griffin Lennes and Zach Espenson.

Tyson Wildeboer scored the next goal for the Defeners just 34 seconds later, unassisted,

With 16:34 left in the second period, Noah Wilmes scored his third goal of the game assisted by Brady Espenson and Davis Nelson, securing the hat trick.

Brady Espenson added to the lead with a goal with 7:33 remaining in the period off a pass from Ryler Schelle.

Isaac Baart put his first of the game in with 5:54 left in the period with a goal assisted by Tyson Wildeboer and Andrew Benson.

The Huskies would avoid the shutout with a goal by Nick Gambino, assisted by Shane Tennell and Caden Weitzel, with 17:17 left in the game. 
Nate Lorenze put the 12th goal in for the Defenders in the third period with 11:52 left in the game, assisted by Zach Espenson and Griffin Lennes.

Huskies forward, Matthew Mattaliano, would score the second goal with 6:41 left in the game, assisted by Dominic Kowalewski.
Wildeboer put the 13th and final goal in with under a minute left in the game, assisted by Zach Espenson, to secure the 13-2 win.

The Defenders improve to 4-3-0 on the season. The Defenders and the Huskies will faceoff tomorrow, October 14 at 2:00 PM to finish the weekend series.
