FINAL
Dordt def. Jamestown 25-13
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dordt Defender football team got a pair of second half field goals to seal their 25-13 win over the Jamestown Jimmies on Saturday afternoon, October 14 in Jamestown, North Dakota.
The Defenders never trailed but needed defensive stands in the fourth quarter and a couple field goals to put the game away.Â
Dordt's scoring started with a safety when Jamestown's snap on a punt went into the end zone and the Jimmies covered it giving Dordt a 2-0 lead. On the ensuing possession the Defenders got a 41 yard field goal from
Stephen Leinen to extend the lead to 5-3.
Jamestown answered with a field goal of their own to make it 5-3 but Dordt scored the first of two touchdowns late in the first half, the first on a
Brendan Pieper one yard run to finish a nine-play, 59 yard drive and
Isaac Looker found the end zone on an 11 yard completion after Jamestown had cut the lead to 12-6. Looker's reception finished a drive that took just 1:24 off the clock and took seven plays to cover the needed 68 yards.
Neither team had much offense in the third quarter until Jamestown got a long pass completion to get inside the Dordt 10 and they cut the lead to 19-13 in the third quarter on a touchdown pass.
Dordt's answer came with a
Stephen Leinen 45 yard field goal and Leinen added a 23 yard field goal early in the fourth quarter that was set up after a
Kolson Kruse 46-yard run to start the fourth quarter that tipped the field position battle.
Jamestown had a possession late that ended on downs after the Defenders were able to put pressure on the quarterback, and after Jamestown interception
Abraham Stoesz knocked the football loose and
Isaac Kacmarynski covered it to effectively end the game.
