The Dordt University men's soccer team closed out the regular season with a dominant 8-1 win against Waldorf in a Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) match played today at the American State Bank Sports Complex.Â
The Defenders finish conference play with a 5-4-2 record and finish sixth in the GPAC standings. They improve to 8-6-4 overall and will play in the GPAC Quarterfinals on Friday night, Nov.3.
Dordt opened up a 5-0 by halftime, using a 14-0 shots advantage in the opening 45 minutes.
Javier Moscardo broke through with the games first goal during the seventh minute while teammate
Marco Laenen netted the first of his two goal three minutes later to put the Defenders up 2-0.Â
Tate Hansen, off an assist by Laenen, gave Dordt a 3-0 lead just 12 minutes into the match. Laenen assisted on the Defenders next goal as he connected with
Jacob Narkis during the 24th minute for a 4-0 lead. Laenen added to his point total with another goal during the 27th minute from an assist by Moscardo.Â
The Defenders added three more goals within the first 20 minutes of the second half to take an 8-0 lead.
Blake Hansen, off an assist by
Ryan Reyes, netted his eighth goal of the season moments into the final half.
Anton Forsch put Dordt up 7-0, scoring his first career goal off another assist by Moscardo, at the 61st minute.
Dylan McIntosh completed the Dordt scoring with a goal at the 65th minute and assisted by
Robin Grewohl.Â
Waldorf scored its only goal during the 65th minute when Garrett McBee found the back of the net.
By the Numbers:
- Dordt held a 19-4 advantage in shots on-goal
- 11 Defenders totaled at least one shot on frame, led by Narkis and Laenen with four each
- Brandon Hansen (3-2-2) made three saves
- the eight goals scored was the second most of the season by the Defenders
