Dordt defeats Saint Mary 91-51
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dordt Defender women's basketball team secured a runaway 91-51 win over the Saint Mary Spires on Friday, November 10 at the Pizza Ranch Classic hosted by Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa.
The Defenders led from the start and it was an 8-6 advantage at the 5:35 mark of the first period.
Macy Sievers scored a lay up to ignite a 10-0 run over a two minute span and the difference was 26-9 after a
Hayden Heimensen three-point basket. Dordt maintained control in the second period for a 42-22 advantage with under three minutes remaining in the half and the two teams went scoreless to finish the period.
The margin ballooned to 27 in the third period and the Dordt ran off a 29-13 fourth quarter advantage to win the contest 91-51.
THE NUMBERS
- Dordt was 35-75 from the field and 5-12 from the three-point line while holding a 59-31 rebounding edge.
- Karly Gustafson led Dordt with 18 points and eight rebounds.
- Faith Van Holland added 12 points in limited play because of foul trouble.
- Gracie Schoonhoven had 11 points and Bailey Beckman scored 10.
- Janie Schoonhoven converted eight points and 11 rebounds and Macy Sievers scored seven with 13 rebounds and nine assists.
- Saint Mary was held to 20-64 shooting for 31 percent.
- Dordt is now 4-0 and Saint Mary is 2-1.

Dordt will face Mayville State on Saturday morning at 10:00. Mayville State was an 87-81 winner over Northwestern on Friday night. Â
