Defenders Fall In Road Game At Morningside

Morningside defeats Dordt 103-88

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Dordt Defender men's basketball team lost a 103-88 decision to Morningside on Tuesday night, November 21 in Sioux City, Iowa. 

The Defenders started quickly and built a 28-19 lead after Lucas Lorenzen converted a three-point play with 11:10 left in the half. Morningside scored the next seven points and eventually tied the game at 31-31 and took the lead with a three-point basket with 5:32 left in the half. Dordt briefly took the lead back at 44-42 on another Lorenzen basket, this one a three-point shot but Morningside lead 48-46 at the intermission. 

The Defenders got a three-point basket by Bryce Coppock and a pair of Lorenzen baskets helped Dordt to a 54-52 lead and it was still tied at 56-56 after Luke Rankin made two free throws. Coppock added a jump shot at the 15:04 mark to get Dordt within 59-58 but the Mustangs ran off the next 15 points for a 74-58 lead and Dordt got no closer than 10 the rest of the game and fell by the 103-88 margin.

  • Dordt was 34-76 from the floor and 12-29 from the three-point line.
  • Morningside had a 39-38 rebounding edge and Dordt had 11 turnovers to seven for the Mustangs.

      • Lucas Lorenzen scored a career high 34 points and had five rebounds and made 6-12 three-point shots. 
      • Bryce Coppock scored 26 and had eight rebounds while converting 4-8 three-point baskets. 
      • Luke Rankin had 14 points and eight assists.
      • Jake Hargens and Ben Fairclough each had six points with seven and nine rebounds respectively.

      • Joey Skoff had 27 points and five rebounds.
      • Ely Doble scored 21 points with five rebounds and five assists. 
      • Aidan Vanderloo added 15 points and Brendan Buckley had a game high 12 rebounds.
