(Friday, November 22; Sioux Center, Iowa) Haley Wielenga, a senior at Western Christian High School (Iowa), has announced her intention to attend Dordt and join the Defender volleyball program.
"I am pumped about Haley! She is warm, humble, and gritty. Her accolades in her senior season speak for themselves but her presence on the volleyball court makes her team better day in and day out. We are looking for players that put the team above themselves and Haley does that effortlessly. I'm excited to see what she'll do in her four years at Dordt!" said Dordt volleyball coach Jacki Smith.
Wielenga is a defensive specialist and libero who had 741 career digs and 593 digs in 2023 and had the fifth most digs in the state. Wielenga was a part of state champion teams in 2022 and 2023 and earned state tournament honors in 2023.
"I chose Dordt University because it will not only push me in my academics but will also challenge me in my faith and help me grow closer to the Lord," said Wielenga.
Haley is the daughter of Evan and Shondra Wielenga of Hull, Iowa. She plans to study business or pre-architectural design.
