Dordt defeats Trinity Christian 83-41
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dordt Defender women's basketball team overcame a cold start to today's game against Trinity Christian in Palos Heights, Illinois and secured an 83-41 non-conference win in the first of two games hosted by Trinity Christian.
Dordt converted 10-43 shots in the first half and 1-19 three-point attempts but still managed to hold a 26-18 lead at halftime. Dordt trailed in the first quarter from the 8:08 mark until the :51 mark when
Eliana Kuperus made a free throw line jumper for an 11-10 lead. Â Two
Gracie Schoonhoven free throws extended the lead to 13-10 when the period ended.
Dordt was up 17-15 with 6:43 remaining in the half and neither team scored again until the 3:14 mark when
Hayden Heimensen went coast to coast for a layup. The Trolls cut the lead to 19-18 but the Defenders closed the half with five points by
Bailey Beckman, including Dordt's first made three-point basket after 19 misses and a
Macy Sievers layup for a 26-18 lead.
2:30 into the second half Dordt's lead was 33-24 and
Karly Gustafson started an 18-0 run by Dordt over the next 3:30 and put the game out of reach with a 51-24 lead. Dordt outscored Trinity Christian 26-10 in the final quarter as the hosts were plagued by a total of 45 turnovers.
THE NUMBERS
- Dordt was 32-91 from the field and 7-34 from the three-point arc while holding a 51-35 rebounding edge.
- Dordt forced 45 turnovers, 26 of them by steal and committed 16 turnovers while Trinity Christian was 18-41 from the field.
- Dordt is now 2-0 and Trinity Christian is 0-1.
