Lorenzen Scores 43, Defenders Pass First Arizona Test

FINAL

Dordt defeats Park-Gilbert 90-67

HOW IT HAPPENED

A 43-point performance by Lucas Lorenzen highlighted a 90-67 non-conference win for the Dordt Defenders over Park-Gilbert in men's basketball at Arizona Christian in Glendale, Arizona.

Both teams struggled on offense in the first ten minutes with Dordt scoring the first five points of the game and Park the next seven. Dordt took the lead for good for good on a Xavier Van Beek three-point basket with 12:23 left in the first half for a 10-7 lead. A Jackson Louscher basket with 5:33 remaining in the half made it 29-15 and Dordt looked poised for a comfortable halftime lead.

The Pirates responded by trimming the lead down to 33-28 with 1:41 left in the half, forcing a Dordt timeout in the process. A Bryce Coppock three-point basket and a Lorenzen three, one of his school record nine, extended the eventual halftime lead to 39-28.

Park got as close as seven early in the second half and was within 46-37 with 15:52 remaining in the game. Eight straight by the Defenders, the last three on another Lorenzen three-point basket, pushed Dordt in front 54-37. The Pirates got as close as 10 again but Dordt pushed the lead to 21 with 6:09 left on a Coppock basket and Dordt rolled to a 90-67 win.
