The Dordt Defender baseball team never trailed in winning its fifth straight game to start the season with a 7-3 victory on the road against Southwestern in Winfield, Kansas.
Dordt got on the board in the top of the first when
Anthony Rodriguez-Klinzing doubled to score
Jason Carrig and
Logan Harris with
Juan Sanchez following with a sacrifice fly to get
Kaden Davis in. Southwestern had an answer with an unearned run in the third and another run in the fourth inning.
Logan De Vries delivered a single in the fifth inning to get
Ben Baker in but Southwest again pulled to within one on a sacrifice fly in the fifth.
Holding the 4-3 lead, the Defenders got three in the sixth inning with Rodriguez-Klinzing plating Carrig with a single and
Nolan Christianson pushed a run in with a single. Dordt's final run came when Christianson was caught stealing but
Caleb Beard scored on the play.
THE NUMBERS
- Anthony Rodriguez was 3-4 with a double and two singles with three runs batted in.
- Jason Carrig was 203 with two runs scored and Oreskes was 2-4.
- Dordt had 11 hits total and Nolan Christianson and Logan DeVries both had singles and reached on walks with one rbi each.
- Gyeongju Kim pitched four and two-third innings with 10 strikeouts and allowed five hits with two earned runs allowed.
- Chaz Gothard went the final two and a third and struck out five with two walks and earned a save.
- Dordt is now 5-0 to start the season.
