The Dordt Defender baseball team won an 18-0 decision over Central Christian (Kansas) on Friday afternoon, February 17. The game, for all intents and purposes, was decided with a 10-run inning by the Defenders in the second inning and the Defenders preserved the shutout with three different pitchers throwing.
The Defenders had four run-scoring singles in the first inning, two doubles that produced runs and a pair of bases loaded walks to account for nine of the 10 runs and another run came on a fielder's choice.
With a 10-0 lead the Defenders scored six more runs in the fourth inning as Dylan Stanly knocked a two-run homerun. Two more in the fifth inning made the final 18-0.
While the Dordt offense was putting up runs
Nick Yeager was in command with five strikeouts in the first two innings and he didn't allow a hit until the there was an out in the fifth inning.
THE NUMBERS
- Jason Carrig and Drew Oresekes each were 3-5 with two runs batted in and Carrig had a double.
- Dylan Stanley was 2-3 with a double and homerun and knocked in three.
- Logan De Vries was 3-4 with a double and single and Ethan Hoogesteger was 2-4 with three runs batted in and a double.
- Dordt had 18 hits.
- Nick Yeager went five innings and allowed a hit with 12 strikeouts and walked one.
- Jordan Griswold and Ty Neugebauer each worked an inning with Grisold getting two strikeouts and Neugebauer didn't allow a hit and struck out one.
