Three Defenders Claim Titles On Saturday

Dordt athletes accounted for 36 top 10 finishes at the two meets

The 25th-ranked Dordt University women's track and field team concluded an outstanding weekend at two different meets today, the Frank Sevigne Invite in Lincoln, Neb. and the DWU Invite in Mitchell, S.D. Three Defenders won their respective events at the DWU Invite, Lydia Herman, Bethany Ten Haken and Anika Homan. Herman edged out Lexy Gilbert (SW Minnesota State) in heat five and claimed overall first place honors in the 200m with a time of 27.05. Ten Haken outlasted Macie Langstraat (SW Minnesota State) to win the 800m with a season-best time of 2:25.57. Anika Homan won the title in the 3000m by nearly eight seconds over the second place runner (Taylor Sporrer of Morningside). Homan crossed the finish line in 11:09.

Shelby Buwalda turned in a top five finish and nearly met the provisional mark in the 600m down in Lincoln, Neb. The freshman placed fifth with a season-best time of 1:37.57, missing the mark by .06 seconds.

Kristine Honomichl and Molly Mulder had strong races in the mile, posting times that would rank them in the top five in the GPAC. Honomichl clocked a 5:11.6, one second from meeting the provisional mark, while Mulder had a time of 5:21.6.

Ayda Den Herder ran a personal-best time in the 200m (26.34), the sixth best time in program history. The freshman also had a personal-best mark in the long jump, placing seventh with a leap of 5.17m (16-11.5).

Both Emilee Heynen and Mika Kooistra finished in the top 10 in the 800m and had times that are among the top 10 in the GPAC.

Paige Decker had a pair of top five showings and posted season-best marks in the high jump and triple jump.

Four Defenders placed in the top five in the 3000m at DWU, led by the winner (Homan), followed by Greichaly Ellens (3rd), Courtney Joiner (4th) and Jessica Opfer (5th).
