Faith Van Holland three-point shot opened the fourth quarter and the teams exchanged baskets before
Janie Schoonhoven's layup off an assist by The Dordt Defender women's basketball team overcame an eight-point deficit in the second half to secure a 61-56 win over the Mount Marty Lancers on Wednesday night in Sioux Center, Iowa.
The game was tied 16-16 after one quarter and Mount Marty pushed to a nine point lead with a 10-0 run as the Dordt offense struggled to find its stride. The run ended with
Karly Gustafson converting a pair of free throws with less than a minute left in the half to get the score to 34-27 at halftime.
Dordt got within five early in the second half but the Lancers held Dordt at bay with a 43-35 lead with 2:32 remaining in the third period. A pair of Gustafson free throws closer the period to get Dordt within 43-37 at the quarter break.
Macy Sievers got Dordt within 45-44. After a Mount Marty basket
Hayden Heimensen got a three to tie it only to have Mount Marty answer with a three-point shots with 4:39 left.

McKenna Klecker layup followed by a defensive stop gave Dordt a chance to take the lead and
Bailey Beckman delivered a layup after a Sievers steal and assist. Another turnover allowed Dordt to build the lead to two possessions as
Bailey Beckman knocked down another three-point basket.
Mount Marty closed to within 56-55 with 1:11 left in the game but Sievers made a shot in the lane and Dordt secured the rebound and eventually made free throws with less than a minute remaining to seal the win.
THE NUMBERS
- Dordt converted 23-58 field goals for 40 percent and 5-23 three-point shots. Dordt also made 13-17 free throws.
- Mount Marty was 22-52 from the field and 7-24 from the arc while converting 8-11 free throws.
- The Defenders had a 37-29 rebounding advantage.
- Bailey Beckman scored 22 points while Karly Gustafson had 12 points, four rebounds and three assists. Hayden Heimensen scored 10 points with five rebounds and Janie Schoonhoven had nine rebounds with six points.
- Faith Van Holland added six points and Macy Sievers had five rebounds and three assists.
- Dordt is now 24-1 overall and 18-1 in the conference while Mount Marty is 7-18 overall and 4-15 in the league.
