GAME 1 VS KANSAS CHRISTIAN
The Dordt Defenders earned a 3-2 win Saturday morning against Kansas Christian in Florida in game one of their doubleheader.
Kansas Christian got two runs in the second inning before Dordt evened the game with a
Nolan Christianson double in the fourth inning that scored
Trevor Jackson and
Caleb Beard. Dordt's
Dylan Stanley then provided the winning run with a solo homer in the top of the seventh.
Kansas Christian got the tying run to second and the winning run at first before
Gyeongju Kim recorded the final two outs of the game on a strikeout and ground out to secure the win.
THE NUMBERS
- Dylan Stanley was 2-4 with two runs scored and a run batted in and Nolan Christianson had a single and double with two runs batted in,
- Gyeongju Kim went the distance with 12 strikeouts and walked two with seven hits allowed.
GAME 2 VS KANSAS CHRISTIAN
The Dordt Defenders earned a sweep of Kansas Christian in non-conference baseball Saturday in Florida with a 6-5 win over the Eagles.
Kansas Christian scored the first run of the game in the first frame before
Dylan Stanley evened the game with a run scoring single.
Anthony Rodriguez followed with a homerun that scored Stanley and Dordt never trailed again. Rodriguez doubled in two runs in the third to extend the lead to 5-2. A
Trevor Jackson fielder's choice stretched the lead back to 6-4 after Kansas Christian got it as close as 5-4. Kansas Christian got it back to 6-5 after six innings but Charlie Hennesy came on in relief and closed the game with a scoreless seventh to secure the win.
THE NUMBERS
- Diego Benitez pitched four and two-third innings and struck out three with six hits allowed.
- Chaz Gothard pitched an inning and a third with one strikeout and Hennesy earned the save with one inning and he struck out two with a base on balls.
- Anthony Rodriguez was 2-3 with a homerun and double knocked in three runs.
- Dylan Stanley, Nolan Christianson and Ben Baker all had two hits with Baker scoring two runs.
- Dordt is now 11-6 and will play a game Monday to conclude the Florida trip.
