Mika Kooistra closed out the 2023 NAIA Indoor Track and Field National Championships for the Dordt University women's track and field team with an All-American finish in the 600m this afternoon in Brookings, S.D.
"Mika ran another great race in today's 600m final," said Dordt University Head Coach Craig Heynen. "The field was very strong this year and she competed well among the group of talented runners."
Coming into the championships as the No.6 seed overall, Kooistra held that ranking in today's final with a sixth place finish and earning three points towards the Defenders team score. Kooistra crossed the finish line with a time of 1:35.35, less than a second behind the fourth and fifth place runners. Addy Wiley, a freshman from Huntington (Ind.) won the 600m in a new record time of 1:29.47.
Kooistra takes home All-American honors for the second time in the 600m, finishing third in 2021, and was competing in the event for the third time at nationals. Kooistra, who also ran on the Defenders national runner-up and All-American 4x800 relay team Friday night, claims the national honor for the 11th time in her career.
