Baseball Drops Doubleheader Against Ave Maria

GAME 1

The Dordt Defenders lost a 10-1 decision in the first of two games at Ave Maria, Florida against Ave Maria University.
Dordt tied the game with a Logan De Vries homerun, his third of the season, but the hosts unlocked the tie with one in the bottom of the second and then added six in the third inning.

THE NUMBERS

Dordt had three hits with De Vries's homerun the lone extra base hit.
Anthony Rodriguez and Dylan Stanley each had singles.
Diego Benitez took the loss and struck out three in two and two-thirds.
Derek LaBounty allowed two hits in three innings and struck out one.

GAME 2

The Dordt Defenders lost a 17-4 decision in game two of their doubleheader with Ave Maria. The Defenders struck for two runs in the first inning on a double by Dylan Stanley as Logan Harris and Ben Baker scored. The hosts came right back in the bottom of the second inning with six runs and they tacked on two more in the third.
Dordt added a run with Harris working for a bases loaded walk and Jason Carrig scored in the seventh on a ground out to the right side. The seventh inning run came after Ave Maria had taken a 17-3 lead.

THE NUMBERS

Dordt had three this with Stanley's double the only extra base hit.
Matthew Ramstead took the loss with Chaz Gothard and Jordan Griswold working in relief.
Jason Carrig and Juan Sanchez each had singles for Dordt's other two hits.
Dordt is now 9-4.

NEXT

Dordt will face Roosevelt on Thursday, March 9.
