The Dordt Defender baseball team earned a split with Morningside in baseball action with a 10-7 win in game one and a 10-0 loss in game two of their doubleheader on Tuesday night, April 11.  The doubleheader was rescheduled from March and was played in Sioux Center.
GAME 1
The Defenders got a grand slam from 
Ethan Hoogesteger to start the scoring in the second inning and scored 
Caleb Beard, 
Anthony Rodriguez and 
Logan De Vries and the Defenders never trailed.
Morningside countered with two runs in the fourth but couldn't get any more and Dordt had a five run bottom of the fourth to get some breathing room. 
Nolan Christianson started the scoring in the inning with a single that scored Hoogesteger and 
Jason Carrig reached on an error by the pitcher in fielding a bunt allowing 
Logan Harris to score.  
Logan De Vries added a two run single to cap the scoring that all came after Dordt had two outs in the inning.
Morningside got one back in the fifth but Dordt got it back with Rodriguez scoring on a wild pitch.
Trailing 10-3, the Mustangs managed to put together a four run seventh before 
Chaz Gothard came on to get the final out and record the save.
THE NUMBERS
	- Geyongju Kim got the pitching win while going six innings and struck out 10 with three walks and three earned runs allowed with six hits.
 
	- Juan Sanchez was 3-3 with a double and two singles.
 
	- Ethan Hoogesteger and Nolan Christianson each had two hits with Hoogesteger's homerun the only extra base hit to go with Sanchez's double.
 
	- The win was Dordt's first in the series since 2018.
 
	- Caleb Beard scored two runs while running for Sanchez.
 
GAME 2
The Defenders dropped game two of their doubleheader with Morningside to force a split of the twinbill in Sioux Center on Tuesday night. Morningside got two in the first, three in the second, and two in the third for a 7-0 lead before adding three in the final two innings combined.
Dordt's best chance to score came in the second when they had 
Logan Harris and 
Nolan Christianson on with a single and walk. 
Ethan Hoogesteger and Christianson both reached in the third but were stranded as well and Dordt managed two base runner sin the fourth as well before the inning ended.
THE NUMBERS
	- Nolan Christianson had two hits and Logan Harris one.
 
	- Dordt was outhit 17-3.
 
	- Diego Benitez took the loss with tow and two-third innings of work and he struck out one with 10 hits.
 
	- Dordt is 3-13 in the conference and 15-19 overall.  Morningside is now 26-9 overall and 12-4 in the GPAC.
 
NEXT
Dordt will face Jamestown on Friday and Saturday, April 14 and 15.
