The Dordt Defender baseball team lost a pair of identical 5-4 decisions to the Mount Marty Lancers on Monday night, April 24 in Sioux Center, Iowa. The games were GPAC contests that were originally scheduled for Friday, April 21 but were moved due to cold, wet and windy conditions.
GAME 1
Dordt scored two runs on a homerun by
Drew Oreskes in the bottom of the fifth inning but couldn't get the winning run across as Mount Marty eventually won it with three runs in the top of the 10
th. Dordt got two runs back in the bottom of the inning but the tying run was stranded at first when the inning ended.
Mount Marty took a 2-0 lead with a pair of first inning runs, one of them unearned and a pitcher's duel followed with Mount Marty's Myles Brown going nine innings to get the win.
THE NUMBERS
- Nolan Christianson had Dordt's only multi-hit game with a pair of singles and Oreskes had the only extra base hit with his homerun.
- Jason Carrig scored two runs and had Dordt's other hit, a single.
- Gyeongju Kim struck out 10 and walked one with one earned run and seven hits allowed in seven innings.
- Chaz Gothard took the loss with three runs allowed on three hits and he struck out three in two and two-third innings.
- Brown struck out 13 while going nine innings for the Lancers.
GAME 2
Dordt got on the board in the first with
Logan Harris scoring on a wild pitch but the Lancers answered with a solo home run in the second and four more in the fourth for a 5-1 lead.
Kaden Davis got two runs back for Dordt in the fifth as he clubbed his seventh home run of the season and
Juan Sanchez had a solo home run in the sixth to get back to within 5-4. Dordt got the tying run on in the bottom of the seventh but a double play ended the game.
THE NUMBERS
- Jason Carrig was 2-3 with a run scored and Davis had two runs batted in with his homerun.
- Juan Sanchez had a solo homerun and Logan Harris had a single. '
- Trevor Jackson was 1-2 with a double.
- Diego Benitez allowed four earned runs with six hits in the complete game and struck out four with one walk.
- Dordt is now 16-26 overall and Mount Marty improves to 32-13.
NEXT
Dordt is scheduled to host Northwestern on Friday and Saturday, April 28 and 29 to conclude the season.
