The Dordt Defender baseball team lost a pair of games to Concordia in a GPAC doubleheader on Friday afternoon, April 7 in Seward, Nebraska by scores of 19-5 and 19-2.
GAME 1
In game one the Bulldogs got four in the bottom of the first with Dordt's
Drew Oreskes answering with a solo homerun in the top of the second. An
Ethan Hoogesteger single scored
Trevor Jackson to bring the difference back to 4-2.Â
The Bulldogs added two in the second and erupted for seven runs in the third for a 13-2 lead. Hoogesteger had a sacrifice fly in the fourth and Oreskes scored from third on a wild pitch in the fourth and
Dylan Stanley's sacrifice fly in the fifth was Dordt's last of the game. Concordia capped the scoring with three runs in the sixth inning for the 19-5 final.
THE NUMBERS
- Logan Harris, Drew Oreskes and Trevor Jackson all had two hits and Oreskes scored a pair of runs.
- Gyeongju Kim took the loss after working two and a third innings with three walks and two strikeouts and 12 hits.
- Bennett Spronk pitched two and two-third innings and had a strikeout and two walks with three hits given up.
GAME 2
An 11 run first inning and five more in the second inning sent Concordia to a 19-2 win over the Defenders in game two of their doubleheader.
Dordt's runs came in the seventh inning when
Trevor Jackson knocked a homerun with
Caleb Beard on base.
THE NUMBERS
- Logan Harris and Jason Carrig each had two hits.
- Mike Bruell took the loss and allowed six hits and two walks in the first inning.
- Ty Neugebauer was one of three Dordt relievers and pitched two innings with one walk and two strikeouts and four hits.
- Dordt is now 14-16 overall and 2-10 in the GPAC.
- Concordia improves to 9-3 overall and 23-11 in the GPAC.
