(Friday, May 12; Sioux Center, Iowa) Ryler Schelle, a graduate of Berthoud High School (Colorado), has announced his intention to attend Dordt and join the Defender hockey program.
"Ryler is someone we have targeted for quite some time. We are excited to bring a player of his caliber to our program, and a young man of his character to our campus. He will further our hockey program on the ice, and he will help continue to set a great standard off the ice and in the Dordt community," said Dordt hockey coach Tyler Morgan.
Schelle has played for the New Ulm Steel and the Sheridan Hawks since 2020-21and has appeared in 103 games with nine goals and 14 assists. New Ulm and Sheridan are members of the North American 3 Hockey League. He was the New Ulm alternate captain from 2021-23 and earned all-state, all-area and all-conference honors during his high school career.
"I chose Dordt because I feel this is God's plan for me. Additionally, Dordt provides the major I need to advance in the career path I plan to follow," said Schelle.
Ryler is the son of Bryan and Karissa Schelle of Berthoud, Colorado. He plans to enter the pre-optometry program.
Dordt University in Sioux Center, Iowa, is a comprehensive Christian college rooted in the Reformed tradition. The Defender athletic program is a part of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC), American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) and the Mid-American Collegiate Hockey Association (MACHA).?
U.S. News & World Report, Money Magazine, Forbes.com, Washington Monthly, and Princeton Review all list Dordt on their best colleges lists. Dordt is home to approximately 1,500 students.
