Defenders drop their home opener 3-2 on Friday night to Friends University.
The Defenders found themselves down early after a penalty kick was awarded and scored by Friends' forward, Keily Larosee, in the 7th minute.
Karinna Tel answered in the 21st minute by netting her first goal of the season off a free kick right outside the 18-yard box to even the score up, 1-1
Shayla Van Beek found herself with a tap in goal in the 43rd minute, assisted by Tel. Ellie Stuart dribbled through traffic and into the box where she found Tel who then crossed through the 6-yard box just out of the reach of goalkeeper, Morgan Wilkinson and the Defenders took the lead 2-1.
Keily Larosse netted another goal just after halftime, in the 48th minute, assisted by Hailey Stiverson that tied the game back up at two apiece.Â
Hanon Nakagami scored the go-ahead goal in the 69th minute.
Friends kept the attack on but Jenna Wright kept it a one-score game.

Defenders drop to 1-1 on the season. They will play Central Baptist on Saturday, September 2 at 7:15 pm to finish out the Pizza Ranch Classic.
