The Dordt University men's soccer team lost to Briar Cliff 1-0 in the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) opener for both teams played today on Memorial Field in Sioux City, Iowa.
Dordt moves to 0-1 in the GPAC, 3-3 overall; Briar Cliff improves to 1-0 in the conference, 4-2 overall.
Scoreless until the 34th minute, the Chargers recorded the only goal of the match when Andrew Buchanan received a long pass from Alex Johnson and touched it past Dordt goalkeeper
Mitchell Dryden for the game-winner.
Dordt had several scoring opportunities, including a goal that was waved off due to an offsides call during the 30th minute. The Defenders had another great scoring chance in the opening minutes of the second half when Javier Mascardo blasted a shot from the edge of the penalty area that was stopped by Chargers goalie Hjalmar Nilsson.
