The Defenders women soccer team battled to a draw with Briar Cliff in the first game of conference play for both teams on Wednesday afternoon, September 13.
The Defenders found themselves in a tight match in Sioux City. Dordt goalkeeper, Jenna Wright kept the match scoreless with an early save in the 9th minute off a shot by Chargers' forward, Sydney Robbins. Briar Cliff would eventually find the back of the net off a penalty kick scored by Chargers' midfielder, Gemma White, after a foul on the Defenders in the 18-yard box. The Defenders would enter the break down 1-0.
Dordt defender, Abby Worthy, tied it up in the 55th minute to record her first goal of the season and her collegiate career. The ball was crossed into the 6-yard box where Worthy controled the ball with her back towards goal and was able to turn and get a shot off towards the back post.
The Defenders had plenty of chances to put in a go-ahead goal, including a shot from Hayden Jennet that hit the crossbar and went out for a Defenders corner kick with four minutes remaining in the game.

- Gemma White led the Chargers with two shots, one on goal
The Defenders find themselves at 2-2-1 overall and 0-0-1 in GPAC play. They will face College of Saint Mary on Saturday, September, 16th at 2 pm in Sioux Center.
