The Defenders played the Midland Warriors to a 3-1 win on Saturday afternoon in the ASB Sports Complex.
The Warriors had plenty of opportunies early but Dordt goalkeeper, Mitchell Dryden, came up with a few huge saves that kept the game scoreless.
The game remained scoreless until the 24th minute. Dordt center back, Kaleb Lee, scored the opening goal off a corner kick by Alberto Jimenez. Lee came unmarked on the front post and finished it past goalkeeper, Marco Moresco.
Lee scored again in the 37th minute off another corner kick. This time assisted by Tyson Reitsma. Lee got his head on the ball and finished it off the hands of Moresco to go up 2-0.
Dryden kept the clean sheet into the second half with a huge save before the break.Â
The Defenders added another one in the 66th minute. John Stephenson tallied his first career goal on senior day that put the game out of reach. Jacob Narkis gave a threaded pass to Stephenson and he took one touch and finished over the head of Moresco.Â
The Warriros put in a goal with five seconds left to avoid the shutout.
By the numbers:
- The Defenders put up 12 shots, nine of which were on goal
- The Warriors put up nine shots, seven on goal
- Dryden secured six saves
- Moresco secured six saves
- Blake Hansen led the Defenders with four shots, three on goal
- Lee's two goals were his second and third of the season

The Defenders improve to 4-4-1 overall and 1-2 in GPAC play. They will be on the road against Dakota Wesleyan on Wednesday, September 27.
