Dordt defeats Mount Marty 3-0 (27-25, 25-16, 25-22)
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dordt Defender volleyball team earned a GPAC win over the Mount Marty Lancers on Friday night, September 29, fighting off two Mount Marty rallies in the first and third sets to secure the sweep.
The first set featured 10 ties up to 14-14 when
Riley Doenhoefer got a kill to give Dordt the lead and
Isabella Cumana had a kill to cap what ended up being a five-point run to put Dordt up 19-15. Dordt seemed to have a comfortable 23-19 lead but the Lancers cut into the gap with a pair of Dordt attack errors but
Ellie Dokter's kill put the Defenders at set point. Back-to-back Lancer kills tied the set and an ace serve pushed the visitors to 25-24 but
Tarren Spartz had a kill and two Mount Marty errors gave Dordt the 27-25 win.
Dordt controlled set two and had an 16-8 lead that the Lancers couldn't dent and Dordt won it 25-16. The win seemed to give Dordt momentum and the hosts were up 9-1 after a Dokter kill. The lead was 10-3 before Mount Marty got to within 11-10. A pair of attack errors ended the threat for the time being but Mount Marty eventually battled to back to tie the score at 22-22. - Dordt had a 43-31 kills advantage and hit for a .205 kill efficiency.
- Dordt had five points from blocks and Mount Marty had six ace serves.
