The Dordt University women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to a ranked Bellevue (Neb.) squad in a non-conference match played tonight at the Papillion Landing Soccer Complex in Papillion, Neb.
The Defenders are now 2-2 this season as they head into their GPAC opener against Briar Cliff next week (Sept.13). The Bruins improve to 4-1-1 on the year.
Karinna Tel put the Defenders on the board first with a goal during the opening minute when she powered a shot from 25-yards away into the upper half of the goal and past Bruins goalkeeper Alessia Ricciardo.
Bellevue answered with its first goal during the 16th minute when Emma Madej received a pass from Britney Nolte and kicked a shot by Dordt goalkeeper
Jenna Wright to tie the score 1-1.
Both teams failed to convert on their scoring opportunities over the final 29+ minutes of the first half.
Still tied 1-1 heading into the final half, Madej scored her second goal of the match off an assist by Ximena Jauregui for the game-winner during the 50th minute. The Defenders best chance of netting the match-tying goal came on a corner kick with seven minutes left.
