HOW IT HAPPENED
Dordt Defenders lost a GPAC road contest Wednesday night, September 7 in Mitchell, South Dakota. The Defenders split their first two sets with the Dakota Wesleyan Tigers but the hosts rebounded with two straight wins in sets three and four to finish with the 3-1 win.
The Defenders took a 3-1 lead in set one after a kill by
Brooklyn Leusink and Dordt was still in front 14-12 after back to back kills by
Riley Doenhoefer. The Tigers took the lead at 16-15 and had a 24-19 lead before three straight points got them to within 24-22. A Dordt attack error ended the set with Wesleyan winning 25-22.
Dordt came back with a 3-0 run to start set two and led 17-11 after a three-point Dordt run that included two kills from
Bryleigh Schweer and a service ace by
Lydia Van Kley. The teams traded points up to a 19-13 Dordt lead with Doenhoefer providing a pair of kills but the Tigers rallied and tied the set 21-21.
Ellie Dokter unlocked the tie with a kill and Schweer followed to make it 23-21. The score was tied at 23 and 24 before Schweer recorded a kill and Wesleyan had an attack error to make the final 26-24 with Dordt evening the match.
Wesleyan seized the momentum with a 6-0 run to start set three and went on to win 25-14 and an early three-point run put the Tigers up 10-5 and Dordt got no closer than four the rest of the way before falling 25-13.
