Hastings def. Dordt 66-65
HOW IT HAPPENED
A late putback of a missed shot pushed the Hastings Broncos to a 66-65 win over the Dordt Defenders in men's basketball on Saturday afternoon in Hastings, Nebraska.
The Defenders took a 4-0 lead early but a 10-0 Hastings run put the hosts up 10-4 with 16:33 left in the half. Dordt bounced back to tie the game 12-12 on a
Lucas Lorenzen three-point shot and the sophomore knocked down a second moments later for a 15-12 Dordt lead and that eventually became 32-24 at halftime.
A
Connor Millikan basket at the 14:20 mark of the game gave Dordt a brief 38-29 lead, the largest advantage for either team in the game. Hastings came back to get within 41-40 but Dordt fought off the rally and didn't give up the lead until a basket at the 2:43 mark put Hastings up 62-61.
Bryce Coppock answered with a Dordt basket at the 2:26 mark but Hastings again answered with :51 left for a 64-63 lead.
Dordt's next possession saw Millikan miss a shot close by the basket but the freshman eventually put back an offensive rebound with :14 left in the game. Hastings missed a shot on the ensuing possession and Dordt was fouled but missed the front end of the one and one free throw.
Hastings's Reggie Thomas missed a three-point shot from the wing but followed his miss and put it back for the eventual winning margin with :03.8 left in the game. Dordt got the ball in the front court but couldn't get a shot off an inbounds play on the sideline with :01.1 left in the game.
Dordt is now 13-5 overall and 6-4 in the league and Hastings has the season sweep of the series.
Hastings is 14-4 overall and 9-1 in the league.
