HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ Â Â Â Â
The Dordt Defender men's basketball team was a 113-83 winner over Briar Cliff on Wednesday night, January 24 in Sioux Center, Iowa. The Defenders used a run late in the first half to take control of the game and were never challenged in the second half.
Dordt started with a 13-7 lead as
Connor Millikan hit a pair of three-point baskets and had a lay-up. The Chargers used the three-point shot to get back into the game and tied the contest at 13-13 and eventually held a three-point lead on two occasions, the last at 20-17 after a Matthew Stilwill basket with 13:16 left in the half.
Millikan three followed by a
Jake Hargens basket in the paint and a
Luke Rankin basket put the Defenders up 24-20.
Ty Van Essen had a put back for a 9-0 run and Dordt eventually expanded the lead to 10 with 4:29 left in the game. Dordt closed the half on a 10-1 run and led 58-39 at halftime.
Briar Cliff got no closer than 15 in the second half as Dordt made 59 percent of its field goals on the way to the 30-point win.
