HOW IT HAPPENED
The Lancers had a 7-0 lead after a 75-yard drive to open the game but Dordt had and answer with a 71 yard drive of their own, finishing with a
Nick Wellen five-yard run for a 7-7 tie with 2:58 left in the first quarter.
Both offenses struggled to find a rhythm for the rest of the first quarter and much of the second until Dordt went 87 yards on 11 plays and ended the drive with a Wellen to
Kaden Harken touchdown grab with 4:51 left in the half. Both teams exchanged interceptions late in the half and Dordt took a 14-7 lead into the break.
Dordt fumbled the ensuing kickoff to start the second half but the defense limited Mount Marty to a field goal. Dordt's next score was a Wellen 33 yard run off the right edge for a 21-10 lead. Mount Marty's defense kept it close as it forced a fumble at Dordt's goal line later in the period and recovered the loose ball for a score and cut the difference to 21-17 with under a minute left in the period.
The Lancers were unable to capitalized on a Dordt fumble on the kickoff and after a punt, Dordt engineered an 89 yard drive highlighted by a
Nick Wellen 52 yard run and
Daniel Dickerson did the honors on a swing pass by
Kolson Kruse for a 28-17 lead and a
Coleson Quiring interception on the next drive set up a 59 yard drive capped by a Dickerson three-yard run and Dordt had its 35-17 win after the defense forced a turnover on downs on Mount Marty's final possession.
