The Dordt women's soccer team defeated College of Saint Mary Flames with a 5-2 decision.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Defenders got off to a slow start as Kylie Anderson scored her fifth goal of the season just eight minutes into the game to go up 1-0 early. The kept the pressure on as Kaitlin Smith had a shot shortly after the goal that was saved by
Jenna Wright. CSM added to their lead in the 21st minute after a handball was called in the penatly area and Ella Klusman converted her sixth goal fo the season to go up 2-0.
Dordt started their comeback attempt a few minutes later after
Karinna Tel netted her first goal of the game, 19th of the season.
Joslyn Terpstra won a foot race to the ball and turned the corner on her defender into the 18-yard box. Terpstra took a touch and found Tel making a back post run that got past the goalkeeper.
Maria Zylstra forced a turnover in their offensive third and made a slotted pass to
Karinna Tel a the top of the 18-yard box. Tel took a one-time shot to the back post to score the equalizer.
With less than a minute left in the first half,
Joslyn Terpstra won the ball onthe sideline and had a three on two advantage. Terpstra crossed the ball into the middle that bounced off a defender and found the feet of Tel. Tel faked the shot with her left before finding some open space near the penalty mark and finished with her right foot into the side netting to take the lead and complete a first half hat-trick.
Dordt struck early in the first half after
Hayden Jennett received a pass on the sideline that she took all the way to baseline before delivering a cross. The cross found Tel, unmarked, at the top of the 6-yard box who hit the volley with her left foot to secure her fourth goal of the game.
Tel scored the final goal of the game after
Joslyn Terpstra won the ball in the Defenders' half before giving a through pass to Tel that left her one-on-one with the keeper. Tel finished at the near post to tie the single season goal record for Dordt.

Dordt's record improves to 9-2-1 overall and 5-1-1 in GPAC play. They will travel to Sioux City to play the Briar Cliff Chargers on Wednesday, October 16. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 pm.
