HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dordt Defender men's basketball team outscored Loras 49-30 in the second half of its season opener won by an 87-60 margin at the De Witt Gym on Friday night, October 25.
Dordt never trailed after taking an 8-7 lead on a Lucas Lorenzen three-point basket and pulled away from a 26-25 lead with 7:07 left in the first half with a 10-2 run ignited by a Jake Proctor lay-up and three-point basket. Dordt managed to hold on to a 38-30 halftime lead and had the second half edge up to 50-37.
The DuHawks cut into the advantage and trimmed it to 59-53 with 8:01 left in the game. Back to back Jake Hargens baskets followed by a Tyler Prins jumper extended the difference back to 12 and the Defenders outscored the visitors 22-5 in the final sis minutes, highlighted by four Lucas Lorenzen three-point baskets.
THE NUMBERS
Loras was 23-51 from the field and made 5-20 three-point baskets.
Dordt was 33-62 from the field and 11-25 from the arc while holding a 34-29 rebounding advantage.
Dordt forced 20 turnovers and gave up 10.
Lucas Lorenzen scored 26 points and was 6-10 from the arc with three rebounds.
Bryce Coppock scored 12 points and had three rebounds and two assists.
Jake Hargens added 10 points with three rebounds.
Tyler Prins scored nine and Luke Rankin had eight points and 10 assists with three steals.
