The Dordt Defenders defeated the Dakota Wesleyan Tigers on a 7-0 decision in their final home regular season match of the 2024 season.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
It took just under two minutes into the game for the Defenders to open up the scoring.
Maria Zylstra worked her way into the penalty area before getting fouled and drawing the penalty.
Karinna Tel stepped up and scored the penalty kick that would prove to be the game winner.
Hayden Jennett doubled the defenders lead in the seventh minute after
Joslyn Terpstra took a shot at the near post that was initially saved but
Hayden Jennett pounced on the loose ball to score her third goal of the season.
Karinna Tel scored yet again in the 10th minute after
Joslyn Terpstra gave a perfect pass across the 6-yard box to a wide open Tel who one-touched it into an empty net for her second fo the game, Dordt's third.
Maria Zylstra added to the lead in the 25th minute after receiving a pass off the head of
Madison Bachar. Zylstra split the defense poked it past Tiger's goalkeeper, Abigail Colgrove.Â
Jenna Roberts netted her third goal of the season and fifth goal of the first half for the Defenders. Tel played the ball across the top of the penalty area that
Eliza Evans one-touched to
Jenna Roberts who snuck it into the back post. Dordt would go into half time with a 5-0 lead.
Karinna Tel broke the career goals record in the 71st minute as a Tiger's defender was unable to control the ball in their offensive half. Tel took control and had a one-on-one with goalkeeper, Isabella Gregg. Tel slotted it to the back post and scored the 65th goal of her career.
Joslyn Terpstra capped off the scoring after she gained possession and flicked the ball over the keeper near midfield and finished the ball at the back post to score the seventh goal of the game.
Dakota Wesleyan had two good chances late in the game but both were saved by
Lydia Zylstra.

Dordt's record improves to 10-4-1 overall and 6-3-1 in conference play. Dordt currently sits at third in the GPAC standings behind Hastings (1st) and Concordia (2nd) and just ahead of Briar Cliff (T4th) and Morningside (T4th). Dordt's final regular season game will be against Northwestern in Orange City, Iowa on Wednesday, October 30th.
